US FDA 1572 Forms
The UBC REBs released a statement on May 15, 2017 regarding US FDA 1572 Forms. This policy statement is intended to outline the REB's perspective on Investigators signing US FDA Form 1572 and to set out alternatives that an investigator can propose to the sponsor so that neither the investigator nor the REB are obligated to comply with foreign (US) regulations.

UBC guidance on the exclusion of research participants based on language
UBC’s Research Ethics Boards recently clarified their adherence to the Tri-Council Policy Statement on exclusion of individuals from research participation based on language. UBC’s REBs prohibit the exclusion of non-English speaking individuals from research unless there is sufficient justification for the exclusion. Selection of research participants must be fair and equitable and based on the Tri-Council Policy Statement’s Principle of Justice. For details, go to…

Joint certificate launched for harmonized ethics applications
A joint certificate of approval has been launched in RISe for ethics applications that are harmonized under the BC Ethics Harmonization Initiative. Partners in the harmonization initiative are: Fraser Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health, Simon Fraser University, the University of Northern BC, University of Victoria and all UBC-affiliated REBs.
New certificates will now display each of the reviewing REBs and will show which REB acted as the Board of Record.
